The analog film look
What is it about?
The “Grain” module simulates the chemical structure of analog film material. This gives the image texture, character, and a classic look.
Not just for retro fans:
Grain also has a technical benefit: It can help to mask digital noise or prevent so-called “banding”. Banding refers to ugly color steps in smooth gradients (e.g., in a blue sky), which are visually broken up by grain.
How to apply it:
- Choose one of the ISO presets (e.g., ISO 400 for light, ISO 1600 for distinct grain).
- Adjust the “Size” of the grain if necessary.
Pro Tip:
Grain often works particularly well with black and white images. It makes them look less like a digital desaturation and more like a real B/W photograph.
